DIY skin essentials

Since last year I've been having some major skin issues and break outs. I was never a care giver so I thought  it was normal but it started to look real bad and it started bothering me, it was obviously because of puberty and hormonal changes but since then I've been very careful about my skin. After proper self-treatment/rehab for a year, its safe to say that now I've a healthy skin. Not perfect but very healthy indeed.
I want to share some of my methods that helped me with my skin. I've a whole routine which i'll share in my next blog. For now, i'll share some basics which'll help give you a real good start.

Cucumber treatment: Cucumbers are anti-inflammatory and they helps in reducing puffiness. As it has high water content, it helps in hydrating the skin and its cool temperature decreases the flow of blood to the space around your eyes. It also limits the blood flow of the skin around your eyes, which helps calm the particular area and alleviate swelling. Hydration of skin also helps in preventing wrinkles.

Usage: Store cucumbers on your refrigerator. Cut two slices and place it on your eyes for 15mins and rinse later, or for better concentrated results, make a cucumber paste using a mixture and mix it with water (Half cucumber and two teaspoon water), and then take some cotton, dip it in the paste and place it on your eyes for 15mins. Scrub the rest of the paste gently in your face for smooth radiating skin. For ready-made eye mask, prepare the paste the night before, dip some cotton in it and store the cotton in your refrigerator. Regular use will help reduce dark circles immensely.

Honey Treatment
Honey is antibacterial, so it is  great for acne treatment and it's prevention. It contains antioxidants which helps in preventing ageing and can also be very moisturising which can help create glow to the skin. It unclog the pores which clarify our pores.

Usage: Dip cotton into a bowl of honey and gently apply it on to your skin and leave it for 30 mins. Rinse it off with lukewarm water. Use circular motion while removing. You can also use it as a cleanser for your skin, by adding some cinnamon to honey and by massaging this concoction on your face. It will remove all your make up and leave your skin feeling moisturised. Do it once or twice a week.

Tomato treatment:
They can be found in your refrigerator everyday! Tomato contains lycopene and it is said that we need 16mg of lycopene everyday which helps in reducing the free radicals in our body and also helps moistures the skin. It also helps fight cancer.

Usage: Dip cut pieces of raw tomatoes in a bowl of sugar and scrub your face with it. This helps in exfoliating your face meaning it'll remove the oldest dead skin cells from the skin's outermost surface. The un-used tomato pieces can be eaten as it is good for digestion and with Vitamin A in it, it'll also improve your eyesight.

Papaya treatment:
Papaya is a good source of Vitamin A. Papaya, named the "fruit of angels" by Christopher Columbus, helps in removing dead skin cells, along with breaking down the inactive proteins. It's Low sodium quality helps in retaining water and always keeps your skin hydrated. Eating Papaya will also give you healthy hair and reduces signs of ageing. Papaya contains plenty of beta carotene, which works wonders to your skin.

Usage: After eating a papaya, use it's skin and apply it to your skin. Also to reduce blemish and pimples you can make a concoction of papaya and honey, simply mix them together and apply it to your face and leave it for thirty minutes. Papaya paste can also be applied to your hair to reduce dandruff and to give texture to your hair.

Lemon treatment
The citric acid in lemons has natural lightening components. Lemon juice kills the bacteria that produce acne while simultaneously clearing up acne scars. I call lemon is a multi tasker, but it is recommended that you don't use it on a daily basis.

Usage: Prepare a bowl of freshly squeezed lemon and add some honey to it. Apply that mixture in your face, it will help exfoliate your skin, and after 20 mins rinse it off with lukewarm water. If you are in a hurry, squeeze some lemon into some cotton and apply it to your face and rinse after 10-15 mins. Avoid on cuts and injuries. Also know that you should avoid sun exposure after any kind of lemon treatment to your skin, so its advised to do it at night.

Important note:
Before any of the above mentioned treatments, wash your hands and the utensils to be used thoroughly.

These are some of the natural remedies that I've been using for a year now. It helped me with my acne, blemish, skin glow and dark circles. I don't use everything regularly except for the cucumber eye mask. I keep a routine and do it once or twice a week. Proper organised usage of these treatments will help you save lots of money. Also remember that these aren't quick fixes but will show results only after a certain period of time and the effects too will be of long term.

Do remember to wash your face twice daily and don't ever pick on your pimple. In fact, keep scratching of your face with your nails to the absolute minimum. And lastly, but not surely the least, drink plenty of fluids. One trick to see how much fluid you have in your body is to check the colour of your urine. The darker the colour of your urine, the more you need to drink. A colourless urine is a sign that says you have enough fluids in you. Until my next blog, take care and God bless
